Beer Cake

From: Grandma (Mom Smith), December 1975

 

Ingredients

 

Sugar Mixture

Flour Mixture

2 cups light brown sugar

3 cups flour

1 cup shortening

2 teaspoons baking soda

2 eggs

2 cups beer (1 can)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

 

2 cups dates (cut up)

 

½ teaspoon cloves

 

½ allspice

 

1 cup chopped nutes

 

 

To Prepare…

 

1.       Mix all ingredients in sugar mixture together.

2.       Mix all ingredients in flour mixture together.

3.       Combine the two mixtures and mix well.

4.       Bake in greased tube pan at 350 degrees for exactly 1 ¼ hours.

5.       Leave in pan until real cool, then loosen outside edge of cake in pan with a knife and remove cake from pan. DO NOT TURN PAN UPSIDE DOWN TO COOL CAKE!!!
